My Brick Walls.....

Below is a locket photograph of my great-grandmother - Anna Lynch O'Donnell Bemer, taken circa 1883..

Anna was born March 1857 in County Cork, Ireland - the daughter of Ann Lynch (whose husband's name is not known - yet).

She told her grandchildren that she'd left Ireland by ship when she was six years old.  In later U.S. census findings, she indicated her date of immigration to the U.S. was 1870 -when she would have been about 12 years of age.

She was known as "Annie" - a tiny woman, fair of skin, and was literate with quite pretty handwriting.

She married twice in her lifetime:

(1) to Andrew O'Donnell on February 25, 1883 in Fall River, MA; they divorced in September 1892 in Chicago.  Andrew immigrated (escaped*) from Kilkenny Co to Chicago in 1874 - they met when she was working in Chicago IL in the late 1870's/early 1880's, and returned to Fall River to marry.  Witnesses to this marriage were Catherine Lynch (not known if this was a sister of Anna's) and Cornelius Plunket.

(2) to John P. Bemer on July 13, 1895 in Chicago IL; all that is known of John Bemer is that he was born about 1863 in Rush City, MN; was listed as "Plasterer" and "Frescoer" in city directories and one census finding; and that he died prior to the 1900 federal census.

Anna died November 16, 1937 in Humbolt, Coles County, Illinois, and is buried with her youngest daughter and son-in-law in Charleston Illinois' Rose Lawn cemetery.

I have since learned a lot more about Anna Lynch OíDonnell Bemer... and of the family of her 2nd husband John Bemer. Still donít know where she 'planted' him, but Iíve only been working on her for about 15 years!
